Critical emergency steps to save your logic board from permanent liquid damage.
Spilled coffee or water on your Mac? Follow these emergency steps right away to prevent severe corrosion and short-circuiting on your logic board.
Accidental liquid spills are among the most dangerous issues for any electronic device. When water meets active circuitry, oxidation and short-circuiting begin immediately. What you do in the first 5 minutes determines whether your Mac can be saved.
Step 1: Shut It Down Immediately: Do not wait to save files. Press and hold the power button or Touch ID sensor until the screen goes completely black.
Step 2: Unplug All Cables & Power: Remove the charger, USB hubs, mice, and any external drives immediately to stop electric current flow.
Step 3: Flip It Upside Down (Tent Position): Open the lid to a 90-degree angle and place the MacBook upside down on a dry towel to draw moisture away from the internal motherboard.
Step 4: DO NOT Use Rice or a Hairdryer: Rice dust enters vent ports and creates sticky residue with water. Hairdryers force liquid deeper into internal components.
Step 5: Bring It to AppleFix for Ultrasonic Cleaning: Even if the laptop dries and turns on, hidden moisture causes corrosion over days. Bring it to our repair center for full board disassembly and ultrasonic cleaning.
